If you ask any old card shark, they will let you know that No-Limit Texas Hold'em is the great-grandaddy of all poker games, and more than that, it is the only pure card game left. In the game, each player is dealt two cards, and a round of betting takes place. Then three cards are placed face-up on the table to be used by all players: this is the flop.
Another round of betting ensues, followed by another communal card, more bets, a fifth communal card and one final round of betting.
Each player uses the two cards in their hand and the five cards on the table in any combination to create their best five-card hand.
Also, as the name implies, there is no maximum raise, so players can go "all in" and wager every cent of their money that they have the best hand. That facet of the game is one of many reasons that it has been hailed as "the Cadillac of poker."
The game is fairly easy to learn, but nuances of play can take years to master. But one major thing that makes the game great is that players do not just try to look at the cards to decide if they have the best hand or not—they look at other players.
No-Limit Texas Hold'em is not just a poker game, it's a life lesson.
