Canterbury Park Holding Corp. (AMEX:ECP) announced that net income for the third quarter nearly doubled from the same period a year ago on the strength of card gaming.

Canterbury, Shakopee, which operates a horse-racing track and card club, stated that net income for the quarter was $1.06 million, compared to $575,547 for the same period a year ago.

Revenue for the quarter was $17.2 million, compared to $14.9 million in the year-ago period.

In a statement, officials attributed the increase to a 24 percent boost in Card Club revenue, which reflects the growing popularity of poker games.

Randy Sampson, Canterbury Park's President, said that the company would continue to seek state approval for electronic gaming devices at the track through a "Racino" bill, expected to be proposed in the 2005 legislative session.
