Poker: Vegas Offers A Strange Truce Of Sorts

Card counting has long been a forbidden dark art as far as casino operators are concerned, and stories abound of too-successful blackjack players being shown the door.

However, as the Las Vegas Sun reports, the broad and growing popularity of gaming has presented casinos with an odd dilemma.

The World Series of Blackjack, filmed at the Golden Nugget and now in its second season on cable outlet GSN, may be a kind of unusual peace offering to the top "advantage players", who use card counting techniques to eliminate the house edge.

The WSOB, seeking to emulate the success of its better-known poker cousin, pits the field of players in a contest to amass chips against a common house. But the fact remains that many of the best blackjack players out there are folks the casinos won't let anywhere near the tables.
