Online poker players are being offered the chance to represent their country by PokerStars.com and its inaugural Americas Cup Of Poker, which will see 16 nations battle it out towards a live final in Argentina with $250,000 in prize money on the line.

For the next three weeks, PokerStars.com is holding daily freerolls and qualifiers starting from as low as 20 cents. To earn a place in a nation’s team, players must earn qualifying points by finishing in the top 100 during any of the online poker site’s ongoing first round qualifying events. The five top finishers from each country will then be invited to represent their nation at poker.

The Americas Cup Of Poker will be made up of 16 nations and these will be divided into four groups. The teams in these groups will then compete against each other in a series of head-to-head round-robin match-ups. The top two teams in each group will then be invited to the live final at Argentina’s Cerro Catedral Ski Resort where the winning nation will take home $100,000.

Group A will consist of the USA, Mexico, Ecuador and Guatemala while Group B will see Canada, Columbia, Uruguay and Panama battle it out. Chile, Venezuela, Peru and Costa Rica will make up Group C while Group D will be made up of Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Honduras.

The five members of the runner-up team at the Americas Cup Of Poker final will share $60,000 in prize money while the third-placed nation will split $30,000. Finishing in fourth will see a team share $20,000 while the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth-placed nation will take home $10,000 each.

Poker Tips

In Texas Hold'em, if someone suddenly bets into you or raises, and you are considering folding, be sure to first look at the amount of chips that the player has in front of him. If he is out of chips it's likely that he is bluff raising/betting because he knows he will go all-in on that hand anyway.
