Leading online poker room PokerStars has entered the Guinness Book Of World Records by breaking its own landmark and hosting over 300,000 players in tournament, cash and free poker games on the same day.

The record was set on September 6 during the eighth annual World Championships of Online Poker (WCOOP) when 307,016 competitors took part around 42,814 tables.

The Guinness Book Of World Records verified the results, which PokerStars stated smashed its previous mark by over 100,000 players.

Yevgeniy ‘Jovial Gent’ Timoshenko won the main event of this year’s WCOOP on September 21 and walked away richer to the tune of $1.7 million. For finishing in second, online competitor ‘Udon Wannit’ took home $1,286,400 while Timoshenko also received a trip to The Bahamas for the 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.

PokerStars revealed that this year’s WCOOP main event saw 2,144 players lay down the $5,200 buy-in in hopes of taking home their portion of a $10.72 million prize pool.

As a contrast, the inaugural WCOOP main event seven years ago attracted 238 players with the winner receiving $65,450. However, this year’s ninth-placed player, ‘PeachyMer’, banked over $96,000.
